Dear Friend,

arate training is the best way to develop confidence, self control, fitness and self protection skills in your child. But unless you are already very knowledgeable about karate, how are going to avoid the common traps most people fall into when looking for a karate school?

My name is Sean Fitzpatrick and guiding people into the fantastic benefits of karate is my heartfelt passion. It really excites me to be sharing discoveries that powerfully transform lives for the better. So I thank you for allowing me to uncover this for you today.

Speaking to you as someone interested in learning, as you follow along with me on this exploration today I don't know just exactly what it was that lead you to visit our web page, whether it was a deeply held concern for your child or awareness of issues they may be facing or just a simple sense of wonder about delving into something new. Nor do I know just exactly which of the many wonderful benefits of karate you can see most meet your needs or which excites you the most, but as that's happening, let's get started.

As a parent myself I understand deeply how much your child means to you. We love them without conditions – we want the very best for them and the very best from them - and nothing less will do. This same love also makes us keenly aware of the areas where we want to see changes for the better.

This is the reason many parents, just like you, contact our martial arts academy.

  • Many children are shy, lack self confidence and find it difficult to communicate.

  • Other children lack self discipline and respect for themselves as well as others.

  • Increasing numbers of kids in our society are becoming couch potatoes – glued to one screen or another and showing no interest in conventional forms of physical activity; with the inevitable dire health consequences that follow.

  •  Many young people these days have become insensitive to violence and the effects of uncontrolled anger. Blended with a lack of empathy and respect for others this becomes a toxic mix just waiting to explode.

  • Or maybe your child just has problems with commitment? How big is the pile of expensive sports equipment, musical instruments or other hobbyist do-dahs you were begged into buying gathering dust at your house?

“She had lost her confidence, sense of humour and her spark and wasn't keen on doing anything ”

My daughter started doing Kenpo at the age of 8yrs after a very traumatic event in her life. She had lost her confidence, sense of humour and her spark and wasn't keen on doing anything.

After her 2nd or 3rd time at Kenpo her old self started to come back through. She was much more confident and really excited about each class. Kenpo taught her how to achieve her goals and each time she reaches those goals then another one is put in front of her.

Grading can be a real challenge but she puts her heart and soul into every grading she has. She is currently a green belt. In the Kenpo Nationals in 2006 in Hamilton she came away with 2 first place and one 2nd place trophies and last year she competed in the World Kenpo championships in Surfers and came away again with 3 trophies.

We are so proud of her achievements, however this may not have happened without the dedication and commitment that Sensei Sean Fitzpatrick puts in to these children. I have never come across someone that is so patient and committed to teaching, training and helping our children achieve their goals. My husband and I were so happy with our daughters success that we also put our other daughter into classes at the age of 6yrs.

Kenpo has taught them discipline, respect, self-esteem, confidence and of course self-defence. What more could any parent ask for?

WARNING!

Before we go any further it is only fair to say that our Karate school is NOT right for everyone. So before we continue our journey to explore all the powerfully effective features at Family Martial Arts allow me to take a quick detour so we can discover if any of these apply to you.

You are looking for a school that is basically just a baby sitting service in a karate suit. You want to pay your fees, drop them off at class, pick them up afterwards and forget about Karate until it is time to drop them off at the next class or pay the next set of fees. If this is you then some part-time school with an amateur instructor would be a better use for your dollar.

You want a school that mainly emphasises tradition and competition. Many schools offer sport karate in place of practical self defence and feudal Japanese regimentation in place of life skills appropriate for the 21st century. If this is what you really want there are plenty of schools around that will fit the bill; ours is not one of them.

You are content with a “McDojo”. For commercial reasons some karate schools will hire any Tom, Dick or Harry, no experience required and make them an instructor. They then expect you sign a contract for lessons with this guy before you have even seen one of their classes!! If you like the idea of this you probably have more money than sense and should just sit tight until the next time they come knocking at your door.

“His teachers at school have commented on his leadership skills”

Enrolling our son T***** in Kenpo has been one of the best things we have done for him. We have seen T***** transform from a shy 6 year old, into someone who has gained self confidence and self discipline and at the same time he has learned to interact well with other children and adults. Before he started Kenpo T***** was shy and tended to stay within his comfort zone, after starting Kenpo and attending training and coaching sessions with Sean Fitzpatrick T***** gained skills that helped him over come his shyness and he is now confident to speak and perform in group situations and in front of people.

He has also developed compassion; he will always assist other people in area's where they need help and encouragement. These qualities have also been noted by his teachers at school t our last meeting with his school teacher she noted that T*****’s leadership skills were very advanced and not only was he looked up to by his peers within his class and but he was a natural leader in many activities within his syndicate at school.
The story of how Family Martial Arts evolved into the most progressive karate program for children and families in Wellington is an interesting one. Tag along with me now as we reveal just some of the major features at our school that will powerfully benefit you as you learn together with us.
  • Full Life skills Curriculum – our program includes a series of life skill assignments on topics such as Concentration, Positive Attitude and Self Discipline. The children take these home and are assessed by the people who know them best – YOU! Our parents just love this aspect of our program!
  •

  • Age Appropriate Rotating Syllabus – Our syllabus format has every child in any given class learning the same thing at the same time thereby maximising their learning experience. Just imagine how you would you feel if at your child's first day at primary school they were in the same class as year 2, 3, 4, 5 and even 6 students? Yet most other karate schools are run on this very model – students all competing for the instructors’ time, getting frustrated and quitting. Also, for children under 8 we have a program customised to develop the major skills and attitudes most beneficial to that age group.
  •

  • Our Art - American Kenpo Karate as developed by the legendary Ed Parker is the most effective, practical, safe and enjoyable available. Thousands of people across the globe pour into Kenpo schools every week. Kenpo is a system based on logic, not tradition and the curriculum is centred on self defence scenarios rather than memorizing ineffective traditional patterns.

“an awesome role model”

My hope was that C****** would learn some skills that allowed him to feel more secure (we had a couple of incidents with bullies) and I thought that he would benefit from the discipline aspects of the Art.

I have seen C****** grow mentally and emotionally, I believe that this has a lot to do with your personal teaching style Sean..You are an awesome role model for C****** and for a young man growing up in a family of a mum and a sister you have provided a well rounded balance to his life.
As we finish here today is not important if you can see exactly what features of our program will benefit you most, or whether the sense of possibilities our program contains is powerfully bringing themselves to mind or whether you just find yourself thinking ‘yeah, this is something really exciting I want to be a part of’.
